Match Sign Up | Match Login | Match.com Meet New Singles – Match.com was founded by Gary Kremen and Peng T. Ong in 1993. It was started as a proof-of-concept for Electric Classifieds which aimed to provide classified advertising systems for newspapers. Early on, Kremen was assisted by Peng T. Ong, who helped in the design of the initial system, and Simon Glinsky, who helped in the development of one of the first Internet business plans for Match.com and also provided management and marketing expertise. The initial business scope developed by this team included a subscription model, now common among personals services, and inclusion of diverse communities with high first trial and market leaders status, including women, technology professionals and the Gay and Lesbian community. Fran Maier joined in late 1994 to lead the Match.com business unit where she significantly bolstered the strategy to make Match.com friendly and accessible to women (the men would then follow).
Match.com went live in early 1995 as a free beta. It was first profiled in Wired magazine in 1995.

Signing up for a dating site, like Match.com, though, doesn’t come with form after form and payment after payment. The site’s goal is to get you on your way and meeting people as soon as possible with as little stress as possible. It only takes five steps to get started, and it’s totally free.
Determine What’s Most Important to You
In addition to learning about your personality and lifestyle, Match wants to learn about your ideal date or partner’s personality and lifestyle. In the “Looking for something specific?” section, you’ll see the same characteristics and qualities from the second step (age, height, body type, wants kids, has kids, ethnicity, drinking, education, religion, smoking, marital status, and salary), and when you click one, you’ll choose what your preferences and/or dealbreakers are.
At this point, you’ll be past the multiple-choice questions — it’s time to say, in your own words, what you’re all about and what you want out of your love life. You must write at least 100 characters, but we’d recommend writing as much as you can so people are inspired to reach out.
